Kratom leaf or Mambog as an extract is produced from the MItragyna speciaosa tree that grows 6-9 feet in height and in excess of 40 feet in the right climates. Found in Northeast Asia one can estimate the climate needed for this tree to thrive. Thailand to New Guinea is the most common range.
The green oval leaves that the tree produces are prized for the paradoxical experience produced when the leaves are chewed, smoked or taken in the extract form. I find the plant most interesting due to the curative qualities that have been reported for addictions to opium. As early as the 19th century the use of Kratom as a curative for opium addiction was reported being used. Said to satisfy the craving without the effects and while alleviating the withdrawals. There are numerous indole alkaloids present in the leaf of the tree. Mitragynine is the active ingredient and shows little to no toxicity even at high amounts.
